Maine Coon cats are a gorgeous breed of long-haired cats who are the largest domestic cats.

Here you can see pics of a Guiness World Record holder - the largest cat. He's a Maine Coon who measures some 48 inches in length. What a cutie!

Big Cat Rescue

Big Cat Rescue is an amazing rescue organization in Tampa, Florida that looks after wild cats that have been abused, neglected, or dislocated. The care that they provide these cats is top notch. They have rescued countless cats from unofficial "roadside zoos" which tend to just breed cats to create cute cubs that people will pay money to pet, and then they toss aside the adult felines or confine them to atrocious living conditions.

Read about the lovely white tiger and lion who were recently reunited at Big Cat Rescue. They had been raised together at just such a type of zoo, with the intention of breeding them to create a "liger" ( a lion crossed with a tiger.) That won't be happening, thanks to Big Cat's intervention. (It's not good for the cats and for the subsequent offspring.)

Do You Know What This Mystery Creature Is?

One thing that fascinates me is how we are constantly discovering new species of wildlife. Even though there's some 7 billion people on this planet, we haven't yet managed to cover every inch of land and thoroughly investigate every conceivable type of animal.

This is an article about a woman in Australia who cares for wild animals that have been orphaned or abandoned. This cute little wallaby-like creature showed up one day, but it turns out that it is not a type of animal that any of the wildlife experts have seen before. It appears to be an as yet unidentified species.

I realize this isn't a cat post, but this article made me wonder how many other animal variations are still out there, waiting to be discovered?

And, more importantly for us cat lovers, are there still any unidentified felines out there? Inquiring minds want to know!
